The Constitution of the People's National Party of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique
Download ConstitutionThere are times when we make history, and there are times when history makes us. Over the past fifty-one years, the history of our political landscape has been marked by promises of national unity, varying degrees of reform, constitutional adherence, social democracy, and empty transformative outcomes. Grenada’s political scene has seen the rise and fall of many political organizations. Although our democracy is a complex and imperfect system, it is a work in progress that requires constant rebalancing of our competing values and priorities.
Throughout its political turbulence, our island and its people have demonstrated resilience over these past fifty-one years. Nonetheless, this post-independence era demands a resetting of the clock with dedicated and ongoing attention to the specific needs of all our people, particularly our youth—a fact that feels deeply relevant in our current political climate.
At this juncture, following our fifty-first independence anniversary, we believe it is essential to be clear about the perspective we adopt when discussing terms such as Democracy, Sustainability, Governance, and Resilience.
The People’s National Party believes that in this post-fiftieth independence resetting, we must:
As such, political organizations and institutions can no longer wander aimlessly toward national leadership through political semantics. Across the Anglophone-speaking Caribbean, voting demographics are shifting, and we now have a more innovative, investigative, and intelligent generation to hold us accountable.
Therefore, the People’s National Party (PNP) presents a political organization for all Grenadians. Inclusive leadership, politics that resonate with human dignity, strategic policy direction, and grassroots, people-centered local representation will create the foundation upon which we aim to reset Grenada.
The PNP identifies as a center-right political organization with Christian Democracy, Liberal Conservatism, and Conservatism as its ideological pillars. These pillars will drive the policy direction of the political organization and, ultimately, the Government. Collectively they posture the PNP on three fundamental philosophical pillars: virtue, the commmon good and human dignity.
Party identification represents a sense of emotional attachment to the organization rooted in its social images. Core Political values are central elements of ordinary citizens’ political belief systems. Citizens who desire to identify with the People’s National Party will identify with the following Core Political values:
We are committed as individuals and collectively to collaborate collegially across geographies, expertise, and experiences toward the achievement of our vision.
We place priority on our partners locally, regionally, and internationally as the centerpiece of our vision and governing agenda. We are open to working with all civic and political actors that support peaceful democratic change. Empowering them is the key to democracy and freedom.
We strive individually and collectively for excellence through research-based innovation and thought leadership, creatively learning and adapting based on evidence, and respect for local context.
We are individually and collectively responsible for our behaviors, actions, and the consequences of our actions to each other and to anyone with whom we interact. We act at all times in ways that promote the security and well-being of our colleagues as well as those who support or benefit from our work, adhering to “do no harm” principles.
We conduct our work based on the philosophical pillars on which we stand, free from conflicts of interest and in the service of our vision.
We respect all political views and act with humility. We treat our colleagues and all persons with human dignity.
PNP is committed to ensuring that diversity, advocacy, equity, and inclusion are reflected in all aspects of the party’s work, including in the delivery or execution of PNP’s public events and activities. The PNP proactively seeks to engage and include members of marginalized or impacted groups whose life experiences would add value to topical discussions so their voices are included and amplified as part of our vision.
